Christmas Concerts - a superb seasonal success!

What a fabulous set of concerts this season! We managed to raise £1500 for St. Mags in Torquay, £900 for Force in Exeter and almost £300 for the NHS Paediatric Diabetes Charity in Ashburton.

We had three excellent support groups that performed in our concerts this year. Torbay Wren Folk Choir, Newtown Roots Folk Band in Exeter and Birdhouse Singers in Ashburton. All of them were superb and added so much to the concerts.

What a wonderful team we’ve had helping in the background for these concerts too. So much preparation is involved from booking venues to liaising with charities, thinking about the safety of all performers, creating posters, setting up the venue. The list goes on. Our team work tirelessly in the background to make sure everything runs smoothly. They are amazing, and no amount of thanks can ever do justice to the work they do, but thank you anyway.

We had such appreciative audiences for all of our concerts, and hearing them sing with us is always a real treat. Hearing hundreds of people sing together is always so uplifting and inspiring. For a few minutes everyone puts down their worries to do something creative and inspiring as one. The sound we individually make blends to become part of something so much greater than the sum of its parts. Add harmony to that mix and we create an audio firework display that lights up the room.

The power of music has always fascinated me. As a young child I remember listening to songs endlessly on repeat that lit me up in some way or other and noticing the indescribable emotions that would flow through me. I didn’t understand then how or why that was happening, and I can honestly say that 40 years later with a music degree and almost 30 years of teaching music, I still don’t. All I know is that there is something magical about making music together.

And maybe it’s best not to know the nuts and bolt of it? So much magic is stripped away from us in life, but music never loses its wonder.

So whatever you’re doing this Christmas, whether it be with family or friends or on your own, I and all at Big Noise Chorus hope that you find some musical magic this year to see you into 2025.
